The Ministry of Science and ICT has joined forces with the top management of platform companies in response to a recent series of security breaches.
On the morning of October 2, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Paik Kyung-hoon held a joint meeting to strengthen information security at the National Science and Technology Advisory Council conference room in Seoul. CEOs and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) from major platform companies, including Naver, Kakao, Coupang, and Woowa Brothers, attended the meeting.
This meeting was convened amid growing public anxiety following a series of recent cyber incidents at large platform companies. The government aims to assess the current state of corporate security and create an opportunity for company leadership to proactively enhance their information security capabilities.
Deputy Prime Minister Paik stressed, "The recent cyber incidents have escalated beyond simple service disruptions and have led directly to significant economic damage for citizens and a decline in national trust." He continued, "Each platform company must strengthen security checks on its core services and information assets, and prioritize information security as the highest value in business operations. Above all, please focus on ensuring stability so that service interruptions do not occur."
Deputy Prime Minister Paik also added that this meeting should not end as a mere request, but rather serve as a turning point where company executives directly address security issues and increase their investments.
