During the Chuseok holiday period, which can last up to 10 days, a significant number of consumers are expected to visit department stores, shopping malls, and large supermarkets for family shopping or grocery purchases. However, some stores will either be closed or operate with reduced hours on certain days during the holiday, so it is important to check the schedule in advance.

According to the retail industry on October 3, Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, and Hyundai Department Store will each close their stores for two days during the holiday period. Lotte Department Store will close 29 locations, including the main branch and Jamsil branch, for two days from October 5 to 6, the day before and the day of Chuseok. The remaining two stores, Bundang and Centum City, will be closed on Chuseok and the following day, October 6 and 7.


Shinsegae Department Store will also close 11 stores-including Gangnam, Times Square, South City, Centum City, Daegu Shinsegae, Daejeon Shinsegae Art & Science, Masan, Gimhae, Gwangju Shinsegae, Uijeongbu, and Cheonan Asan-on October 5 and 6. The main branch will be closed on Chuseok and the following day, October 6 and 7, while the Hanam branch will be closed only on October 6.


Hyundai Department Store will close 10 locations-including Trade Center, Cheonho, Mokdong, Jungdong, Kintex, Pangyo, The Hyundai Seoul, The Hyundai Daegu, Ulsan, and Chungcheong-on October 5 and 6. Four other locations-Apgujeong Main Branch, Sinchon, Mia, and Ulsan Dong-gu-will be closed on October 6 and 7.

Many large supermarkets will be closed on Chuseok and on the mandatory closure day, which falls on the second Sunday of the month, October 12. For Emart, 43 out of 133 locations nationwide-including Yangjae and Cheonggyecheon in Seoul, and Gwacheon, Sanbon, Pyeongchon, and Uijeongbu in Gyeonggi Province-will be closed on October 6, while the remaining stores will close in rotation according to the mandatory closure schedule. For example, six stores, including Gimpo Hangang and Osan, will be closed on the substitute holiday, October 8.


Homeplus and Lotte Mart will each close only 19 and about 30 stores, respectively, on Chuseok, October 6. The remaining stores will adjust their regular operating hours from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. On the mandatory closure day, October 12, the majority of Homeplus and Lotte Mart locations will be closed.


Outlet malls will operate more flexible hours during the holiday period. All 21 Lotte Outlet locations and Lotte Mall Sanbon will be closed for one day on Chuseok, October 6. Five Lotte Mall locations-Jamsil Lotte World Mall, Time Villas Suwon Mall, Suji, Gimpo Airport, and Eunpyeong-will remain open throughout the holiday, but will delay opening to 12:00 p.m. instead of the usual 10:30 a.m. on October 6 only.

Shinsegae Simon Premium Outlets will also operate as usual throughout the holiday period with no closures, but will open at 12:00 p.m. instead of the usual time on Chuseok, October 6. Meanwhile, Hyundai Outlet and Connect Hyundai will be closed on Chuseok, October 6.


Meanwhile, most online platforms such as Coupang, SSG.com, and Kurly will continue to offer same-day and early morning delivery during the Chuseok holiday. Coupang will operate its delivery system without any closures during the holiday period, while SSG.com will deliver as usual except for October 6, and Kurly will deliver as usual except for October 7. 11st's 'Shooting Delivery' service will be available in the Seoul metropolitan area, except for October 6, allowing customers to receive same-day delivery for orders placed before 11:00 a.m.
