According to the "2025 Chuseok Pre-Holiday Currency Supply Performance" released by the Bank of Korea on October 2, the net currency issued (issuance minus redemption) to financial institutions during the ten business days before Chuseok (from September 19 to October 2) amounted to 4.4183 trillion won. This is an increase of 671.5 billion won (17.9%) compared to the previous Chuseok holiday.
Specifically, the total amount of currency issued was 4.7321 trillion won, up 818.2 billion won (20.9%) from last year. The amount of currency redeemed was 307.8 billion won, an increase of 140.7 billion won (84.2%).
An official from the Bank of Korea stated, "The increase in the issuance amount was due to the Chuseok holiday period being extended from five to seven days, as well as a rise in demand for holding cash resulting from lower market interest rates."
