Buncheong Embraces the World: Ongoing Dialogue Among International Ceramic Artists in Goheung

Adelaide Reno and Nuria Pozas Join the Artist-in-Residence Program

The Goheung Buncheong Culture Museum in Goheung County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Gong Youngmin), announced on October 2 that French ceramic artist Adelaide Reno (Adelaide Renault, Darius Renault), the second participant in its international artist-in-residence program, has been residing in Goheung since September 1 and will continue her creative activities there until November 30.

Adelaide Reno has completed courses at major French art schools and is an emerging artist about to receive her master's degree. She has been recognized for her original work that combines ceramic sculpture with painterly language.

Currently, Adelaide Reno is producing buncheong ware inside the museum, carving a variety of painterly motifs-such as figures, hands, and plants-onto the surfaces of her ceramics. Her actual works feature motifs like hand shapes, people, and flowers, blending everyday and lyrical themes. Through the unique clay and white slip techniques characteristic of buncheong, she creates innovative painterly textures.

A museum representative stated, "Adelaide is not simply borrowing from buncheong traditions, but is reconstructing them by integrating her own artistic language."

Since September 1, Spanish ceramic artist Nuria Pozas has also begun her month-long residency. Based in Asturias in northern Spain, she has participated in a variety of international events, including the International Ceramics Biennale and the Women Ceramicists Festival.

During her stay in Goheung, Nuria Pozas will present creative works under the theme of "Dialogue between Spain and Korea," fusing Goheung clay with traditional Asturian ceramic styles and incorporating motifs inspired by the Alhambra of Andalusia.

Meanwhile, the Buncheong Culture Museum expects that the continuous residency of international artists will establish it as a platform for experimentation and exchange in the world of ceramic art.
