The police have launched a full-scale investigation into allegations that the Jeonnam Provincial Council inflated overseas business trip expenses.
On October 1, the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit 1 of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency sent about 20 investigators to the Secretariat of the Jeonnam Provincial Council to conduct a search and seizure operation.
It is reported that through this search and seizure, the police secured materials related to overseas training stored on office computers.
Currently, the police have booked employees of the Secretariat of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, staff members of the secretariats of 15 basic local councils in Jeonnam, and travel agency officials on charges of fraud.
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission reviewed the status of overseas business trips at 243 local councils, confirmed 405 cases of airline ticket forgery or alteration, and requested an investigation by law enforcement agencies.
