Prosecution Also Files Appeal After Seeking Life Sentence

Seo, a man in his 30s who killed his wife three months after their marriage for refusing to have sexual relations, has appealed the first trial verdict that sentenced him to prison.

According to the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Jang Chan) on October 1, Seo's defense attorney filed a notice of appeal the previous day. The prosecution also filed a notice of appeal on the same day.

It is understood that both the prosecution and Seo's side appealed on the grounds of unfair sentencing.

The prosecution had sought a life sentence for Seo, a man in his 30s indicted on murder charges, during the final hearing, but the court sentenced him to 25 years in prison on September 25.

Previously, Seo was indicted on charges of strangling his wife to death while intoxicated at their home in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on March 13, about three months after their marriage. He was acting as the chief mourner at his wife's funeral when he was urgently arrested by the police. During the police investigation, Seo initially denied the charges, but when confronted with evidence, he claimed it was an impulsive act.
