Fostering Professional Ceramic Artists: Program Bears Fruit
The Goheung County Buncheong Culture Museum (headed by County Governor Kong Youngmin) announced on October 1 that, for the first time since its opening, it launched a "Ceramic Craft Technician Certification Class" to inherit the Goheung Buncheong pottery culture and foster professional ceramic artists, and held a closing ceremony in the museum's main auditorium on September 29.
Approximately 20 people, including students, instructors, and museum officials, attended the ceremony to celebrate the achievements together.

The Ceramic Craft Technician Certification Class was part of a program to nurture ceramic artists, with the goal of preparing participants for the national technical qualification exam administered by the Korea Industrial Human Resources Corporation. Those who pass the exam obtain a qualification that enables them to perform professional work in the field of ceramic crafts.
A total of 12 students participated in this course, which was held once a week for six months starting March 24. The program covered both theory and practice, including the definition and history of ceramics, clay composition, forming, plaster modeling, decoration and glazing, firing, as well as basic wheel-throwing and practical exam preparation.
As a result, nine students passed the written exam, and six of them ultimately obtained the certification. Those who passed the written exam will have the opportunity to take the practical exam next year. In the future, graduates are expected to continue their activities through various related projects, such as opening ceramic studios, developing products, and improving their professional skills.
A representative from the Buncheong Culture Museum stated, "This certification class marks the first step in nurturing ceramic artists, and we aim to further develop the Goheung Buncheong pottery culture industry and produce master ceramic artists in the future."
Meanwhile, the county plans to use this program as an opportunity to further strengthen its status as a hub for Buncheong pottery and to continue serving as a center for ceramic culture exchange and solidarity within the local community.
