Installation of Cultural Plaza and Busking Stage, Completion Scheduled for January Next Year
Expansion of Rest and Cultural Spaces in Jungang-dong
Commercial District Revitalization Expected
On October 1, the city of Yongin in Gyeonggi Province announced that it had begun construction of the "Kimnyangjang Riverside Park," which will cover an area of 455 square meters at the confluence of the Gyeongan Stream and Geumhak Stream in Kimnyangjang-dong, Cheoin-gu.
This project is part of the Jungang-dong Urban Regeneration Project, which was selected through a public contest by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. A total of 220 million won has been allocated for the project, with completion scheduled for January next year. The city is overseeing the project, while Yongin Urban Corporation is responsible for its implementation.
Through this initiative, the city will create a tiered cultural plaza at the confluence of the left bank of Gyeongan Stream and Geumhak Stream, and will install rest stands and a stepped busking stage. Taking into account the risk of flooding, safety facilities will be installed in the park, and it will be designed to host a variety of cultural performances and hands-on events.
The city explained that once the park is completed, it is expected to revitalize the commercial district around Jungang Market, together with the Kimnyangjang Deullaknalla Street Project and the installation of a drop fountain, all of which are part of the Jungang-dong Urban Regeneration Project area.
This park construction was initiated based on surveys of visitors and residents conducted to promote the Jungang-dong Urban Regeneration Project. In the survey, 77% of respondents said that food and rest areas were needed near Jungang Market, and 51.5% expressed the need for hands-on programs.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "We will ensure that the riverside plaza becomes a place where citizens can relax and enjoy culture," adding, "We will meticulously carry out the urban regeneration project so that Jungang-dong is loved by citizens and the local commercial district is revitalized."
