Jo Yongik, the mayor of Bucheon, has declared a strong response against certain extreme YouTubers and BJs who continue to engage in reckless filming and bizarre live broadcasts around Bucheon Station, expressing a firm determination to resolve the issue.

On September 29, Mayor Jo Yongik inspected the area around Bucheon Station at the "Whenever There Is a Chance, Into the Field" event held at Pinocchio Square. He was joined by the Bucheon Station Area Image Improvement Task Force, Wonmi Police Station, and the Wonmi-gu Community Crime Prevention Unit to assess the situation on-site, listen to citizens' opinions, and seek solutions.

Previously, in 2022, the city collaborated with the platform company AfreecaTV to restrict live broadcasts in the area, operated the Bucheon Station Maru Square Environment Improvement Task Force, and continued joint crackdowns and guidance with the police.

However, recently, extreme YouTubers and BJs have resumed disruptive broadcasts around Bucheon North Station, causing noise, safety concerns, and damage to local businesses, leading to serious harm to surrounding commerce and the city's image.

In response, the city has newly established a dedicated task force for improving the image of the Bucheon Station area and will implement comprehensive measures in three key areas: facility improvements, community cooperation, and institutional support. In particular, the city plans to introduce strong measures to create a "structure in which it is no longer possible to make money in Bucheon" for these extreme YouTubers, ensuring they cannot profit from their activities in the city.

First, in cooperation with Wonmi Police Station, the city will strengthen regular patrols and unannounced joint inspections of the square, and strictly crack down on any disorderly conduct. Patrols will also be expanded through collaboration with private volunteer organizations. In the Pinocchio Square area, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) techniques will be applied, such as removing sculptures and boundary stones and eliminating U-shaped bollards, to create an environment where individual creators will find it difficult to linger.

Additionally, the city intends to activate a merchant network and host wholesome cultural events, aiming to transform Bucheon from a stage for bizarre broadcasts into a digital cultural city. Administrative responses will also be significantly strengthened, including the operation of consultation centers for residents and business owners, campaigns and promotional activities to maintain order, the enactment and revision of related ordinances, and the operation of special judicial police to provide a legal basis for enforcement. The city also plans to thoroughly review policies related to individual creators and broadcasting platforms.

He added, "We will restore the Bucheon Station area as a space where citizens can feel safe and help revitalize the local economy," and continued, "We will mobilize all legal and administrative means to establish safety and order in the local community."
