Police officers working at local police stations in Gwangju are under internal investigation following a series of allegations of sexual misconduct against female colleagues.
According to the National Police Agency on September 30, a formal complaint was recently filed by an inspector from the Dongbu Police Station, alleging sexual misconduct. It has been determined that a fellow officer working at the same police station submitted the complaint to the Human Rights Investigation Division of the National Police Agency, reporting harm suffered.
In accordance with procedures, the National Police Agency has recommended separating the alleged perpetrator and the victim, who work at the same police station. As a result, the inspector in question has been on annual leave and has not been reporting to work since September 25.
An official from the National Police Agency stated, "A formal complaint has been received and an internal investigation is underway," adding, "We cannot disclose specific details."
An inspector from the Seobu Police Station in Gwangju is also under internal investigation for making remarks that caused sexual humiliation to a female colleague in the same department. Another inspector from the Seobu Police Station has been suspended from duty after being criminally charged with forcible molestation.
