Hyoryeong Senior Welfare Town, affiliated with the Gwangju Social Service Agency (hereafter referred to as Hyoryeong Town), held a commemorative event for the 29th Senior Citizens' Day in its auditorium on the 30th.
This event was organized to promote a culture of respect for the elderly in celebration of Senior Citizens' Day and the Chuseok holiday, one of the nation's major traditional holidays, and to foster harmony with local residents. Over 300 members and residents attended, sharing meaningful moments of intergenerational communication and neighborly warmth.
Last month, Hyoryeong Town put the values of community care and mutual growth into practice by delivering daily necessities and refreshments to residents of 12 nearby villages affected by heavy rains.
Notably, Yoo Gwisuk, spouse of Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung, also attended and delivered a congratulatory speech expressing hopes for bringing an AI Computing Center to Gwangju, which was well received by the attendees.
Side events included a performance by the Youth Arts Troupe and a singing contest for seniors. At the Hyoryeong Market and food stalls, the Buk-gu and Nam-gu Senior Clubs as well as the Korea Wheat Farming Cooperative Association participated to showcase local products and foods made with domestic wheat.
Jung Kyungnam, head of Hyoryeong Town, stated, "Today's event was a meaningful occasion to express our gratitude for the lives and wisdom of our seniors," adding, "Going forward, Hyoryeong Town will continue to grow together with the local community and do our utmost to realize a welfare community where all citizens can be happy."
