Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province announced on September 30 that it will open four major public parking lots created as part of urban regeneration projects, offering a total of 239 parking spaces free of charge for ten days from October 3 to 12.
The designated parking lots are as follows: Saeam-ro Public Parking Lot (37 spaces), Sigi Downtown Public Parking Lot (41 spaces), Jogokcheon Deulpulmadang Public Parking Lot (70 spaces), and Cheongnyeon Kkumteo Parking Tower (91 spaces).
These parking lots were developed through the Urban Regeneration New Deal Project and are currently managed by Jeongeup Jeongsim Village Management Social Cooperative and Reborn Village Management Social Cooperative under consignment agreements.
This measure was implemented to alleviate parking difficulties for citizens visiting traditional markets and downtown shopping districts during the holiday season, as well as for those returning to their hometowns. It is expected to significantly improve the traffic environment and ensure pedestrian safety in the downtown area, where illegal parking along roadsides has been common due to a lack of parking spaces.
Beyond simply providing parking convenience, the initiative is also expected to help revitalize traditional markets and local commercial districts. With parking concerns eased, shoppers can visit traditional markets and downtown stores more conveniently, injecting new vitality into previously stagnant business areas.
Mayor Lee Haksoo stated, "We decided to offer free parking so that those returning home for the Chuseok holiday and citizens visiting traditional markets can shop and spend time with their families without worrying about parking. The infrastructure established through urban regeneration projects is making a tangible difference in citizens' daily lives and contributing to the revitalization of the local economy, which is highly meaningful."
