Agreement Signed for Joint Research and Collaborative Department Operations Based on Autonomous Manufacturing
The Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (President Kim Youngbu, BISTEP) held a "Joint Research and Academic-Industry Collaboration Workshop on Autonomous Manufacturing" and signed a business agreement with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) and Pusan National University (PNU).

The main objectives of this agreement are to: ▲strengthen cooperation with local base universities and specialized educational institutions; ▲discover joint research opportunities based on autonomous manufacturing; ▲establish strategies for operating the PNU-KITECH joint department; and ▲develop strategies for AI application technologies and digital transformation.
The three institutions plan to collaborate on: ▲discovering joint research projects linked to the advancement of the autonomous manufacturing industry and mega-programs; ▲building a cooperative system to promote the PNU-KITECH joint department; ▲developing research and strategies for AI application technologies and digital transformation; and ▲reviewing technology demand and developing curricula to foster specialized talent based on academic-industry collaboration.
The workshop was held over two days, from September 11 to 12. On the first day, the program began with a presentation by KITECH Group Leader Park Inuk on "Academic-Industry Collaboration Projects Linked to Autonomous Manufacturing and Mega-Projects," followed by a variety of expert presentations, including: ▲Dr. Oh Wonjeong's "Autonomous Manufacturing and Response Strategies in the Southeast Aviation Industry"; ▲Hyundai Heavy Industries Executive Vice President Shin Sangbeom's "Innovation in Shipbuilding through Autonomous Manufacturing and Eco-Friendly Ship Research"; ▲KNN Producer Bae Woochan's "The Era of Local Independence and Integration: Restructuring Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam"; and ▲Pusan National University Professor Choi Yunseok's "Process Simulation Approaches for AI Autonomous Manufacturing."
On the second day, a planning meeting of the BISTEP-KITECH-PNU council was held to discuss ways to promote the joint department, and BISTEP Director Yoon Jieon presented on "The Status and Strategic Direction of AI-Driven Manufacturing Industry," marking the first step toward achieving concrete outcomes among the collaborating organizations.
BISTEP President Kim Youngbu stated, "In the midst of changing industrial paradigms, autonomous manufacturing and AI application technologies are the key drivers of regional industrial innovation. With this agreement, universities, research institutes, and industries in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions will work closely together to lead joint research and foster specialized talent."
