Chungnam Achieves Highest Number of Glocal University Selections Nationwide

Chungnam Province has established itself as a hub for regional university innovation and talent cultivation by producing the highest number of universities nationwide selected for the Glocal University program, which is overseen by the Ministry of Education.

Jungju Park, Deputy Governor for Administration of Chungnam Province, announced at a press conference on the 29th, "This year, Kongju National University and Chungnam National University (integrated type), as well as Soonchunhyang University and Hanseo University (independent type), have been designated as Glocal Universities." He added, "With a total of five universities selected, including Konyang University last year, Chungnam has achieved the best results in the country."

The Glocal University program is a government initiative launched in 2023 to promote balanced regional development and university innovation. Selected universities receive up to 100 billion won in government funding over five years (or up to 150 billion won for integrated types), as well as regulatory exemptions.

Although Chungnam faced concerns last year due to unfavorable regional conditions, models such as the 'Chungnam-type Contract Department' and collaborative problem-solving with cities and counties received high marks from the government, resulting in Chungnam being recognized as the top local government nationwide.

This achievement is attributed to the multi-track educational innovation of Kongju National University and Chungnam National University, the AI medical convergence of Soonchunhyang University, and Hanseo University's K-Aviation specialization model. Together, these initiatives have established a foundation for Chungnam's universities to cultivate customized talent tailored to industry demand.

Deputy Governor Jungju Park stated, "RISE and the Glocal University program are core projects aimed at overcoming the crisis of regional extinction through university innovation. The province and universities will work together to actively support young people so they can settle in the region."
