Kim Younggeun Takes Office as Gwangju Police Chief: "Eradicating Crimes Against Livelihood Is Top Priority"

Kim Younggeun (age 57), the 22nd Commissioner of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency, delivered his first message at his inauguration ceremony on September 29, stating, "I will focus investigative efforts on eradicating crimes that harm people's livelihoods."

In his inaugural address, Commissioner Kim said, "With the upcoming government reorganization, public expectations regarding investigative capabilities have risen. The police's fundamental duty to protect citizens' lives, physical safety, and property has become even more important at this time." He added, "We will safeguard citizens from crimes and accidents, provide special protection for the socially vulnerable, and listen closely to the voices of the local community and on-site opinions."

Commissioner Kim, a graduate of the 6th class of the Korean National Police University, previously served as Head of Public Safety at the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency, Chief of Mokpo Police Station in Jeonnam, and Chief of both the Western and Eastern Police Stations in Gwangju.
