Gmarket Partners with Southeast Asia's Leading E-Commerce Platform 'Lazada'... First Collaboration of Shinsegae-Alibaba Alliance

Full-Scale Online Export Begins: Supplying 20 Million Products
Targeting 160 Million Consumers in Southeast Asia
Plans to Expand Distribution Channels to Over 200 Countries

Gmarket announced on September 29 that it is embarking on a full-fledged expansion into overseas markets by partnering with Lazada, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia.

Lazada is a global affiliate of China’s Alibaba Group and is headquartered in Singapore. It boasts approximately 160 million customers across Southeast Asia. This partnership marks the first collaborative achievement of the joint venture established by Shinsegae Group and Alibaba International. Through this partnership, Gmarket products will be linked with Lazada and supplied for sale to local customers, with the number of available products reaching about 20 million. According to the company, sellers registered on Gmarket will gain new opportunities to secure sales by tapping into the vast customer base in five countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines.

The Lazada product integration service is characterized by its ease and convenience for sellers. Sellers can link their products to Lazada through a simple consent process on Gmarket’s sales management site (ESM PLUS). All essential processes for sales, including product management, order processing, and shipping, are identical to domestic sales procedures. Since domestic product numbers and order numbers are linked to Lazada, efficient management is possible.

The language barrier has also been addressed, as detailed product information is automatically translated and displayed in the local language. Logistics services have been streamlined as well. Sellers only need to deliver sold products to the Lazada logistics center located in Incheon. After that, international shipping and customer support are jointly handled by the Gmarket and Lazada platforms.

Previously, the joint venture created by Shinsegae Group and Alibaba International announced plans to strengthen the global expansion of approximately 600,000 sellers registered on Gmarket by leveraging Alibaba’s worldwide distribution network. Following its entry into Southeast Asia, Gmarket plans to gradually expand its market reach to over 200 countries and regions where Alibaba operates, including Europe, South Asia, South America, and the United States.

A Gmarket representative stated, “This Lazada product integration is the result of a strategic partnership designed to help domestic sellers enter overseas markets more easily and securely,” adding, “We will spare no effort to support Gmarket’s top sellers in seizing opportunities to increase sales in international markets.”
