This marathon, the first in the nation themed around secondary batteries, served as a platform to promote the industry, with leading Pohang-based secondary battery companies such as POSCO Future M and Ecopro taking part. Educational institutions like Pohang University also joined, making the event a meaningful festival that combined talent development with industrial advancement.
The event was held as a participatory festival where marathon clubs and citizens from all over the country came together, with races divided into half-marathon, 10 km, and 5 km courses.
The course started at Songdo Beach and followed the coastline through Yeongildae Beach, Hwanho Sunrise Park, and the entrance to Jukcheon Beach (near Ecopro), offering participants beautiful scenic views of Pohang's coastline.
As for the race results, Park Youngbeom (Pohang) took first place in the men's half-marathon, while Gong Miseon (Gimhae) won the women's half-marathon. In the 10 km race, Jung Woonsan (Gumi) won the men's division, and Lee Namkyung (Ulsan) won the women's division. For the 5 km race, Jung Sehwan (Ulsan) claimed first place in the men's division, and Heo Sojeong (Pohang) won the women's division.
To ensure safety and smooth operations, the Pohang South and North Police Stations, the fire department, and the Facilities Management Corporation collaborated, while volunteers from Pohang University and local community organizations managed the course and operated convenience booths, supporting the seamless operation of the event.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "Despite being the first marathon, it was a great success thanks to the high level of interest and participation. It became an opportunity to share and promote Pohang's new future industries. We will continue to host innovative festivals that bring together citizens and businesses."
