Koo Yoonchul: "Korea-U.S. Exchange Rate Negotiations Completed... No Request for Increased U.S. Investment"

Koo Yoonchul, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance, stated on September 27, upon returning from his visit to the United States, "Negotiations with the United States regarding the exchange rate have been completed, and we plan to announce the results soon."

Regarding the currency swap, he added, "We have provided sufficient explanations to the U.S. side, and we are currently awaiting their response."

Upon his arrival at Incheon International Airport that afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister Koo told reporters, "The President met with Secretary Besant first, and I was also present. During that meeting, the President addressed issues related to trade negotiations and the currency swap, and I subsequently held bilateral talks with Secretary Besant, where I provided a detailed explanation of Korea's foreign exchange situation and the necessity of a currency swap."

When asked about the possibility of the currency swap negotiations being rejected, he responded cautiously, "Secretary Besant is fully aware of our foreign exchange situation, and since I also discussed several other matters, I believe those aspects will be taken into consideration."

Regarding recent reports suggesting that the United States has requested an increase in investment funds, he drew a clear line, saying, "I have not heard anything of the sort."
