12 First-Grade IT Systems Among Those Affected
Central Government Websites Inaccessible

A fire broke out at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon, where the government and public institutions' communication systems are concentrated. As a result, government IT services have been largely paralyzed.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Fire Agency on September 26, a lithium battery fire occurred at around 8:20 p.m. on the fifth floor of the National Information Resources Service in Hwaam-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon.

National Information Resources Service Fire... 70 Government IT Services Paralyzed

The National Information Resources Service is a facility where the IT systems of public institutions are consolidated. Due to the fire, a total of 70 systems-including 12 first-grade and 58 second-grade systems, such as mobile identification-were affected, resulting in service outages. Central government ministry websites and the government email system are also currently inaccessible.

The fire authorities have deployed 73 firefighters and 70 fire trucks to the scene to extinguish the blaze, but are reportedly facing difficulties in suppressing the fire. There is a large amount of smoke at the site, and efforts to avoid damaging the IT systems are making firefighting efforts challenging. One person inside the building also sustained burns.

Yoon Hojoong, Minister of the Interior and Safety, ordered that the fire be extinguished quickly with the highest priority placed on human safety, while also mobilizing all available resources to restore government service operations.
