Three women who went missing in Argentina were shockingly livestreamed on Instagram being tortured and killed.
The entire process of torturing and killing the victims was broadcast live via Instagram Live, and 45 private accounts watched the real-time streaming. Police discovered this after one of the arrested suspects confessed during interrogation about the Instagram Live. According to local media, police initially detained four people in connection with the case, and later arrested a total of 12 suspects.
Javier Alonso, Security Minister of Buenos Aires Province, explained, "They fell into a trap set by an international drug trafficking organization, and the organization orchestrated the scheme to kill them." He added, "It appears the organization planned the crime to punish the victims and warn other members." He also reported, "While the victims were being tortured, the gang leader said, 'This is what happens if you steal my drugs.'"
Possible motives for the crime include violation of discipline within the drug organization, involvement in theft, and punitive measures against those who broke internal rules. The gang leader suspect, known by the nicknames 'Little J' and 'Julito,' is a 23-year-old man from Peru, and an arrest warrant has been issued for him.
This incident has caused a major shock in Argentina, and the possibility of a misogynistic crime has also been raised. On the 24th, protests condemning the incident took place in Flores and La Tablada. On the 27th, a street demonstration with the slogan "There are no good or bad victims: only femicide" is scheduled to be held in Buenos Aires.
