"Earn Deposit Interest and Invest in Overseas Stocks"
Hana Card announced on the 26th that it will launch the "Travelog Foreign Currency Account."
Travelog is Hana Financial Group's flagship overseas travel service. It leads cashless travel by enabling 24/7 mobile currency exchange.
Within three years of its launch, the service has surpassed 9 million subscribers and accumulated currency exchange transactions of 4.5 trillion won. Its overseas debit card market share has ranked first for 31 consecutive months.
Since its launch, Travelog has spearheaded group-wide collaborations, introducing products such as the "Travelog Travel Savings Account" and the "Travelog Travel Insurance."
Hana Card emphasized that the launch of this foreign currency account marks the first case in the financial industry where Hana Money, Hana Bank, and Hana Securities have collaborated. The company highlighted that it has consolidated the group's digital capabilities.
The foreign currency account is a foreign currency deposit account that allows charging and redemption of foreign currency Hana Money, as well as overseas stock trading through Hana Securities.
Customers can exchange currency without fees, earn deposit interest, and even invest in overseas stocks.
Any individual or sole proprietor of Korean nationality aged 14 or older can open an account. The account supports 58 currencies, the same as Travelog, and up to 10 different currencies can be deposited. The maximum deposit limit is USD 10,000 (approximately 1.41 million won) in total across all currencies.
When preparing for overseas travel, customers can charge foreign currency Hana Money from the foreign currency account without any fees. Any leftover foreign currency Hana Money after the trip can be redeemed and stored back in the foreign currency account.
Foreign currency held in the account earns interest provided by Hana Bank. Those wishing to invest can do so in overseas stocks through Hana Securities.
Hana Card announced that it held a pre-launch event. Those who answered all three OX quiz questions correctly, held from the 15th until the day before the announcement, will receive 10 Hana Money. Sharing the event on social networking service (SNS) channels grants 10 Hana Money per share, up to 300 times.
From today until the 31st of next month, an open event will be held. The first 10,000 customers to open a foreign currency account will receive a "lucky" USD 2; all customers will receive fractional shares worth 10,000 won in companies such as Tesla, Apple, Nvidia, and Intel; and customers opening a Hana Securities account for the first time will receive six months of free U.S. stock trading commissions and an additional six months at a 0.07% commission rate.
Customers will also receive a 5,000 Money investment support bonus simply for holding foreign currency in the account after issuance.
Sung Youngsoo, CEO of Hana Card, stated, "The foreign currency account is the culmination of Hana Financial Group's digital capabilities," adding, "It is meaningful to connect Travelog, which is about to reach 10 million subscribers, with Hana Bank, Korea's leading foreign exchange bank, and Hana Securities, a traditional powerhouse in stock trading."
