The China Research Center at Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) will hold a Korea-China International Symposium in Gyeongju on September 26, marking the center's 10th anniversary and the hosting of the 2025 Gyeongju APEC.
The center has invited prominent Chinese scholars, as well as leading China experts from Korea's Yeongnam region, to foster improvement and cooperation in Korea-China relations.
This international symposium will focus on addressing previously strained topics in Korea-China relations, such as diplomacy, the economy, and cultural exchanges, from both Korean and Chinese perspectives. The event also aims to explore ways to improve bilateral relations in the future.
The first session, titled "Changes in the East Asian Security Landscape," will feature in-depth discussions on the following topics: the outlook for U.S.-China strategic competition in East Asia under Trump; prospects for the Korea-U.S. alliance and Korea-U.S.-Japan trilateral cooperation under Trump; the era of maritime East Asia during a period of major transition; and seeking peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula amid changes in the international order, including the strategic implications of the Lee Jaemyung administration's Korean Peninsula policy and Korea-China cooperation.
The second session, under the theme "Prospects for Korea-China Cooperation," will cover a wide range of topics, including: strategies for Korea-China cooperation to promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula; whether China-Korea relations are once again at a historic crossroads; strengthening economic cooperation and establishing stable supply chains between the two countries; and promoting friendship and active exchanges between the peoples of Korea and China.
The 2025 Gyeongju APEC Dongseo University Korea-China Symposium is expected to serve as a meaningful platform for exploring the potential for strategic communication and cooperation between the two countries.
A Dongseo University official stated, "We hope that the 2025 Gyeongju APEC and the Dongseo University Korea-China Symposium will help usher in a genuine thaw in Korea-China relations and open a new chapter for both nations."
