The World Festival and Event Association has designated Geumsan County in Chungcheongnam-do as a World Festival City.
At the World Festival and Event Association conference held in Palm Springs, California, United States, the Geumsan World Ginseng Festival proved once again to be Korea's top festival by winning three gold awards, one silver award, and two bronze awards.
The awards received were as follows: Gold Awards - Best New Event (K-Insam Super Robot Pavilion utilizing robots and advanced technology), Best On-Site Decor (festival venue installations themed around ginseng), and Best Printed Materials (festival pre-promotional leaflets); Silver Award - Best Overall Entertainment Program (festival program composition and operation); Bronze Awards - Best Ad Series (advertisements utilizing festival design) and Best Promotional Poster (official festival poster).
The International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA World) was established in 1956 to build a global festival network and to share festival management information and new ideas.
Currently, the association has more than 3,000 full members and over 50,000 associate members across 50 countries on six continents. To enhance the quality of festivals and promote global festivals, it designates World Festival Cities and holds an annual awards ceremony every September.
This year marked the 70th Pinnacle Awards World Festival, with participants from 30 countries competing in 64 categories. Korea ranked second overall, following the United States.
Geumsan County achieved the best results among all basic local governments in Korea for the second consecutive year, and as a result, was designated a World Festival City.
The World Festival City designation is awarded by the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA World) to exemplary cities around the world, based on criteria such as festival competitiveness, dedicated festival organizations, exclusive festival venues, and the economic impact on the local community.
This year, along with Geumsan County, ten cities from six countries were selected as World Festival Cities, including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Hawaii in the United States; Vulcan in Canada; and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
With this designation, Geumsan County elevated its status at the 70th IFEA World Annual Convention and the 2025 Pinnacle Awards World Festival, and can expect increased marketing effectiveness for attracting both domestic and international tourists.
Additionally, Geumsan County will be able to use the 2025 IFEA World Festival City logo on official documents, websites, promotional materials, and marketing campaigns.

In addition to the Geumsan World Ginseng Festival, which is Korea's representative industrial festival, Geumsan County also hosts the Geumsan Samgyetang Festival in the summer, themed around Korea's signature health food Samgyetang, and in spring, holds the Wild Cherry Blossom Festival in Bogok Valley, which boasts the country's largest wild cherry blossom colony.
Park Beomin, Governor of Geumsan County, stated, "We won three gold, one silver, and two bronze awards at the World Festival and Event Association conference. I would like to thank all the residents who participated in the festival for helping Geumsan County be selected as a World Festival City."
He added, "We will continue to do our utmost to ensure Geumsan County's ongoing development as a world-class festival city that attracts visitors from around the globe."
