Hampyeong County in Jeollanam-do inspired patriotism among its residents by unveiling the Baekbeom Kim Gu Hampyeong Historic Monument.
On the 24th, Hampyeong County announced that it recently held an unveiling ceremony for the Baekbeom Kim Gu Hampyeong Historic Monument at Hampyeong Elementary School.
The ceremony was attended by Kang Hachun, Deputy Governor of Hampyeong County; Lee Namoh, Chairperson of the Hampyeong County Council; Kim Namyong, Director of the Jeonnam Western Veterans Affairs Office; Park Jeongae, Superintendent of the Jeonnam Hampyeong Office of Education; and Na Yuri, Principal of Hampyeong Elementary School.
Baekbeom Kim Gu visited Hampyeong Elementary School in 1946, where he delivered a speech on the current situation, declaring his commitment to self-reliant independence without relying on foreign powers and to the establishment of a unified nation.
The Hampyeong Historic Monument was erected by the Hampyeong Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Association to honor Kim Gu’s noble aspirations for independent sovereignty and national unification. Two monuments were built: one at Hampyeong Elementary School and another at Baekbeomjeong (Naksujeong) on Jungang-gil in Hampyeong-eup.
During the ceremony, Kim Yunwoo, President of the Hampyeong Elementary School Student Council, read a letter pledging to carry on Kim Gu’s spirit. Students also commemorated the monument’s unveiling and fostered Kim Gu’s legacy through a recorder performance.
Additionally, Choi Jonghyun, who attended Kim Gu’s 1946 speech as an elementary school student, was present to provide a vivid historical testimony. Participants also chanted “Manse” three times in front of the monument, further inspiring a spirit of patriotism.
Kang Hachun, Deputy Governor of Hampyeong County, stated, “I hope that Baekbeom Kim Gu’s patriotic spirit will remain a lasting historical asset in Hampyeong. We will continue to make various efforts to promote patriotic education and foster love for the country.”
