Yeoncheon County Successfully Holds Jeongok Urban Regeneration Public Hearing... Major Contribution to Local Economic Revitalization Yeoncheon County held a public hearing on the proposed changes to the Jeongok Urban Regeneration (Regional Specialization) Activation Plan on the 19th, with about 100 residents in attendance. This public hearing addressed plans to expand the Jeongok Play Park construction project, which was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Urban Regeneration (Regional Specialization) Activation Project on December 15, 2023. The project will be scaled up from a two-story underground and three-story aboveground structure to the construction of the Jeongok Culture Station, which will have two underground floors and six aboveground floors, as well as the construction of the Jeongok Station Parking Tower, a local government project.

The Jeongok Culture Station construction project, in collaboration with EBS, plans to create children's play facilities on the first to third floors above ground. The fourth floor will feature a multiplex theater (one auditorium dedicated to children, one dedicated movie theater, and one multiplex auditorium) with 155 seats. The fifth floor will house a youth center, and the sixth floor will offer 20 youth accommodation rooms. This project is designed to revitalize the old downtown area of Jeongok 4-ri as a catalyst for urban renewal.

To proactively address parking issues expected from increased visitor traffic after the completion of the Jeongok Culture Station, plans are also underway to construct the Jeongok Station Parking Tower, a four-story, five-level facility with a capacity for 200 vehicles.

The majority of residents who attended the public hearing expressed their agreement with the plans, and the fourth-floor multiplex theater, in particular, received strong support as it has been a long-cherished wish of the community since December 2016.

According to a Yeoncheon County official, the results of this public hearing will be reflected when the proposed changes to the Urban Regeneration (Regional Specialization) Activation Plan are submitted for review at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s fourth amendment review in October 2025. If the changes are approved, construction will begin in December 2025, with completion targeted for December 2027.

This project is a key regional facility promoted as part of the Jeongok 4-ri Urban Regeneration Activation Project, and upon completion, it is expected to revitalize the aging downtown area and boost the local economy by attracting more visitors.

The head of Yeoncheon County’s Urban Division stated, "The simultaneous completion of the Jeongok Culture Station and Jeongok Station Parking Tower projects will create a synergistic effect when linked with existing tourism resources in the area and will make a significant contribution to revitalizing the local economy."
