The Gwangju Pharmaceutical Association has reported a "warehouse-style pharmacy" set to open in Gwangju to the police for violating the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act.
On September 23, the association issued a press release stating, "We have confirmed that the business in question received and stockpiled pharmaceuticals in advance without completing the official procedures to open a pharmacy."
The association emphasized, "If a business that has not been officially established as a pharmacy distributes pharmaceuticals, it may face up to one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won. The relevant wholesalers and pharmaceutical companies should also be subject to penalties."
In Gwangju, warehouse-style pharmacies that display and sell pharmaceuticals in a large retail format are scheduled to open in Suwan District, Gwangsan-gu, and Ssangchon-dong, Seo-gu. The location under suspicion of violating the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act is a store of approximately 760 square meters (230 pyeong) being prepared in Suwan District, which is reportedly set to open as early as the end of this month.
