Mayor Kang Gijeong of Gwangju and a delegation will officially visit Hangzhou and Shanghai, China, from September 24 to 27 to benchmark AI innovation policies and strengthen global cooperation, seeking strategies for "AI for All Gwangju."

The Gwangju delegation, departing on September 24, will first visit Hangzhou, an innovation city that has produced companies such as DeepSeek, Unitree, and Alibaba, to examine AI policies, practical case studies, and talent development strategies, while also expanding exchanges and cooperation.

Mayor Kang will meet with Lushan, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, as well as the Deputy Directors of the Science and Technology Department and the Department of Commerce, to learn about China's government-led AI strategies and key policies, and to share the development direction of Gwangju as an AI-centered city. The delegation will also discuss ways to strengthen industrial and economic cooperation between Gwangju and Zhejiang Province.

The delegation will attend the "Hangzhou Digital Trade Expo," China's only national-level digital industry exhibition, to build networks with global tech companies. They will then visit Zhejiang University to benchmark its system for nurturing technology elites and its university-centered startup ecosystem, and propose collaborative projects such as co-hosting startup competitions.

The delegation will also visit the government-led "Hangzhou AI Computing Center" and "AI Town," which are core hubs of the Hangzhou AI Industry Belt, to further develop strategies for attracting the National AI Computing Center and establishing the "AX Demonstration Valley" as part of the "AI for All Gwangju" initiative.

The delegation will visit the Huawei Renqiu Lake R&D Center in Shanghai, known as the heart of AI in China, to observe firsthand how a large-scale research and development hub attracts talent, creates jobs, and impacts the regional economy. They will also hold meetings with senior Huawei officials, including Wang Fan, President of Huawei Korea, to share the vision and future of the AI ecosystem in the Cheomdan 3rd District.

On September 23, Mayor Kang emphasized, "China's rise as a global technological powerhouse in AI has been achieved under strong government support. By benchmarking government-led AI innovation policies and strengthening cooperation, Gwangju will take the lead in making Korea one of the world's top three AI powers."
