Gwangsan District in Gwangju to Issue 'Gwangsan Sarang Gift Certificate' Local Currency in November

Up to 20% Discount Benefits
Participation from 3,250 Affiliated Stores

Gwangsan District in Gwangju has begun preparations to issue the local currency 'Gwangsan Sarang Gift Certificate.' The planned issuance amount is 10 billion won, and the issuance period will be one month, from November 5 to December 4, 2025. Buyers can receive a discount of up to 20%.

Since January 2025, Gwangsan District has been working to introduce a local currency to help revive the local economy. The Gwangsan Sarang Gift Certificate can be used at affiliated stores with annual sales of 3 billion won or less. Certain businesses, such as (quasi-)large retail stores and entertainment or gambling establishments, are excluded.


Since July 2025, the district has collaborated with the Residents' Association and the Small Business Association to promote affiliate recruitment. As of September 22, 2025, a total of 3,250 stores have applied for affiliation. 'Danggeun Gwangsan Jobs' staff are recruiting affiliates by visiting local businesses in teams of two. The 'Gwangsan Sarang Gift Certificate QR Supporters' install QR kits at approved affiliates and provide instructions on how to use them.


Store applications can be submitted through the 'Local Gift Certificate Chat' mobile application operated by Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation. The gift certificates will be issued in both mobile and card formats. Individuals aged 14 and older can purchase up to 500,000 won per person. In addition to a 10% upfront discount, buyers can also receive a post-purchase reward of 8-10% depending on their region.
