Expectations for Research on a Wando-Tailored Basic Society Model
Laying the Groundwork for Next Year's Wando County Mayoral Election Bid
Shin Younggyun, former Director of Economic and Industrial Affairs of Wando County, preparing to run for Wando County Governor next year.
Shin Younggyun, former Director of the Economic Industry Bureau of Wando County, opened the "Lee Jaemyung Wando Basic Society Research Institute" on Jangbogodaero in Wando-eup on September 18. As Shin is preparing to run for Wando County Mayor next year, the opening of this research institute signals the official start of his election campaign activities.
The "Lee Jaemyung Wando Basic Society Research Institute" serves as a think tank that studies a sustainable, Wando-tailored basic society model based on policy research on basic society. In particular, the institute is expected to research and develop strategies for the advancement of a basic society in Wando by adapting the basic society vision-such as basic assets, basic income, and basic services-that President Lee Jaemyung has emphasized since his tenure as leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, to the local realities of Wando.
The institute has selected the following as its key research areas: sustainable development strategies for the abalone industry; addressing regional depopulation through youth employment and attracting new residents; strengthening universal welfare and care for social integration and equality; and innovating the agricultural and fisheries industries by improving distribution systems.
Local political circles have analyzed Shin's recent actions as more than just preparatory steps for an election bid, suggesting that he is demonstrating a clear commitment to addressing issues directly affecting residents' lives through concrete policy solutions.
Director Shin Younggyun stated, "Through the opening of this research institute, I hope to serve as a catalyst to protect the lives of Wando residents and foster a sense of pride in Wando for the next generation," adding, "I want to work together with residents to contemplate, take action, and open up a new future for Wando."
Shin has accumulated 35 years of administrative experience at Wando County Office and South Jeolla Provincial Government, and retired honorably as Director of the Economic Industry Bureau of Wando County in 2020. Since running in the Democratic Party of Korea's primary for Wando County Mayor in 2022, he has devoted himself to the development of Wando County.
