On the afternoon of the 22nd, Yongin City held a "Citizens' Resolution Rally Urging the Enactment of the Special Act for Support of Designated Cities" at the Geuneoulmadang Hall of the Suji District Lifelong Learning Center.
At the event, two citizens read a resolution statement on behalf of the group, and a signature campaign was also held on-site. During the rally, participants united around three key points: the prompt enactment of the Special Act for Support of Designated Cities, the substantial transfer of administrative and financial authority appropriate for a designated city, and the citizens' collective commitment to realizing the enactment of the special act.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "With a population surpassing 1.1 million, Yongin City is managing metropolitan-level administration and meeting the rapidly growing demand for urban infrastructure. However, under the current system, we only receive the authority and financial support of a basic local government, which creates many limitations in various areas. I urge citizens to join forces to secure the administrative and financial authority that matches the development of a designated city."
Starting in Suji District, the city plans to hold additional resolution rallies and signature campaigns in Cheoin District (Ace Hall, Yongin City Hall) on the 26th and in Giheung District (Main Auditorium, Yongin Severance Hospital) on the 29th.
