Taebaek City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Lee Sangho) announced on the 22nd that it is making every effort to achieve its target for securing national and provincial funding for 2026 through close cooperation and strategic responses with central government ministries and the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
According to the initial plan for securing national and provincial funds, the city has been thoroughly reviewing the target projects for each department, identifying new projects and supplementing plans in line with the government's budget direction, submitting proposals to central ministries and the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and maintaining ongoing communication with local members of the National Assembly.
Taebaek City is focusing its efforts on launching new projects with a total project cost of 464.5 billion won by securing national and provincial funding for 2026.
The key new projects for national and provincial funding currently being promoted by Taebaek City include: ▲Economic Revitalization Project for Early Mine Closure Areas (7.4 billion won), ▲Local Vitality Town Development Project (3.6 billion won), ▲Cheoram Agro-Industrial Complex Beautiful Street Project (800 million won), ▲Taebaek Food Street Commercial Area Revitalization Project (780 million won), ▲Jangseong District (Phase 2) Sewer Pipeline Maintenance Project (550 million won), ▲Cheoram District Sewer Pipeline Maintenance Project (550 million won), ▲Yongyeon Cave Tourism Landmark Project (3.3 billion won), and ▲Yongyeon Cave Linked Specialized Content Development Project (1.5 billion won). In addition, the city is also working to secure funding for numerous ongoing projects.
The amounts reflected in this budget are mainly for service fees related to project initiation and preliminary procedures. The city plans to ensure that major projects proceed without delay by securing additional funding annually in the future.
Mayor Lee Sangho stated, "We will continue to respond until the end to ensure that as many major projects as possible are included in the final government budget by the end of the year." He also emphasized, "We will do our utmost to discover new growth engines for Taebaek, revitalize the local economy, and resolve inconveniences for residents."
