At 10:30 a.m. that day, a rice donation ceremony for elderly people living alone and children in foster care was held at the city hall plaza, attended by Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin, Ace Kyungam Foundation Chairman Ahn Seongho, and Kim Hyojin, Secretary-General of the Gyeonggi Community Chest of Korea, among others.
The donated rice will be distributed, one bag per household, to elderly people living alone who receive basic livelihood support and to foster care children in Seongnam, through the 50 neighborhood administrative welfare centers in the city.
This year, 1,100 more bags were donated than during last year's Chuseok, increasing the number of beneficiaries.
The city expressed hope that this donation would bring comfort and warmth to marginalized neighbors.
Since 1999, the Ace Kyungam Foundation has donated rice to Seongnam City every year for both Lunar New Year and Chuseok, marking 27 consecutive years of sharing as of this year.
The cumulative value of the donated rice, calculated at market price, has reached 3.3395 billion won.
