Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 22nd that it will provide an entrance preparation allowance of 100,000 won per elementary school student, to be paid through the local currency, Bucheon Pay.
The support is available to first-grade students who are entering elementary school or alternative education institutions for the first time in 2025. To be eligible, students must have resident registration in Bucheon from the date of admission to the date of application. Foreign students and those who move to Bucheon after the admission date are excluded from eligibility.
The application period runs until November 28. Applications can be submitted online or by visiting the local administrative welfare center. Online applications are available through the Bucheon City website, but only parents who share resident registration with the student attending an elementary school in Bucheon are eligible to apply online.
If a guardian who is not the parent is applying, or if the student attends an alternative education institution, online application is not available. In these cases, applications must be submitted in person at the administrative welfare center in the applicant’s district starting from the 20th of next month.
The entrance preparation allowance will be provided via a Bucheon Pay card issued in the applicant’s name. It can be used at local currency-affiliated stores selling items related to school entrance, such as stationery stores, bookstores, clothing shops, shoe stores, and optical shops. However, its use is restricted in certain business categories, including private academies, hospitals, pharmacies, restaurants, and lodging establishments.
Cho Yongik, Mayor of Bucheon, stated, "The entrance preparation allowance will help reduce the financial burden on parents and contribute to creating an environment where every child can receive an education without discrimination. I hope everyone will apply within the designated period."
