Ministry of Science and ICT Launches Science and Engineering Master’s Scholarship Program for the First Time
Each semester, 2.5 million won in scholarships will be provided to 1,000 graduate students in science and engineering nationwide, totaling 5 million won per year.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Student Aid Foundation announced on September 22 that they will launch the Science and Engineering Master’s Scholarship Program for the first time in 2025.
Universities wishing to apply for the Science and Engineering Master’s Scholarship should submit their applications through the Korea Student Aid Foundation’s university and institution financial aid system by October 2. Scholarship recipients will be selected from students enrolled in graduate schools that have applied to participate in the program.
The Science and Engineering Master’s Scholarship Program is designed to support early-career master’s students so they can grow into outstanding talent in science and technology.
Approximately 1,000 scholarship recipients will be selected from graduate schools in science and engineering nationwide, each receiving 2.5 million won per semester and 5 million won per year. The selection process involves participating universities applying to the Korea Student Aid Foundation, receiving an allocation of scholarship slots, and then recommending students who meet their own selection criteria.
Eligibility is limited to full-time master’s students majoring in natural sciences or engineering who are newly admitted or currently enrolled in the second semester of 2025 and meet certain academic requirements. Graduate schools will comprehensively evaluate applicants based on academic and research plans, research achievements, social contributions, and financial status, and then recommend candidates. The Korea Student Aid Foundation will make the final selection after a thorough review.
Koo Hyukchae, the First Vice Minister of Science and ICT, stated, "I hope that the Science and Engineering Master’s Scholarship, introduced for the first time this year, will serve as a foundation for the growth of young people aspiring to become scientists and engineers." He added, "We plan to further expand full-cycle support so that outstanding science and engineering students can grow without financial hardship."
