According to local media on September 20 (local time), the Gaza Health Ministry announced that at least 60 Palestinians were killed as the Israeli military attacked underground tunnels and other targets in Gaza City and across the Gaza Strip. This indicates that the offensive has not abated since the ground operation began in Gaza City on September 15.

The Israeli military is reported to have taken control of the eastern outskirts of Gaza City. In this attack, they heavily bombarded the Sheikh Radwan and Tel Al-Hawa areas, which serve as strategic points for advancing into the central and western parts of Gaza City, where most of the remaining population is staying.

The Israeli military estimates that more than 500,000 people have left Gaza City since the beginning of this month. The population of Gaza City is believed to be around 1 million. However, Hamas claims that only about 300,000 people have fled so far, and that approximately 900,000, including Israeli hostages, still remain in Gaza City.

These attacks have taken place as several countries are set to announce their recognition of Palestine as a state during the upcoming high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 23.

According to major foreign news outlets, as of now, 10 countries-including France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Belgium, and Luxembourg-have indicated their intention to officially recognize Palestine as a state at this United Nations General Assembly.
