According to the report, A had a brief consultation with local medical staff beforehand and planned the surgery himself by referencing gender reassignment surgery videos posted online. Before the procedure, he injected himself with a local anesthetic and attempted the operation using a surgical knife.
However, as the anesthetic wore off quickly, he began to experience severe pain. As his condition worsened due to bleeding, he ultimately sought help from his landlord and was transported to the hospital.
The medical staff treating A explained, "The patient has dreamed of living as a woman since adolescence, and this action appears to have stemmed from such gender identity conflict." They added, "After emergency treatment, his current condition is stable."
The hospital determined that a comprehensive diagnosis, including an assessment of A's mental health, was necessary and reportedly provided information on various options, including the possibility of gender reassignment surgery. Subsequently, mental health professionals began counseling, and additional medical consultations are scheduled to follow.
A was preparing for India's national civil service examination, the UPSC, but it is reported that psychological conflict over his gender identity has made it difficult for him to focus on his studies.
