Gyeonggi Province Becomes First in Nation to Support Real Estate Brokerage Fees for Self-Reliant Young Adults

Gyeonggi Province will become the first in the nation to provide support for real estate brokerage fees for self-reliant young adults.

On September 21, Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that it has expanded the eligibility for the "Gyeonggi Province Real Estate Brokerage Fee Support Program," which provides up to 300,000 won in brokerage fee support to low-income residents (recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security Program), to include self-reliant young adults up to the age of 39 for the first time in the country.

Self-reliant young adults are those who, after being under the care of child welfare facilities, group homes (communal living arrangements), or foster care, must begin living independently once they reach the age of 18.

Until now, self-reliant young adults often received support only for a limited period or fell into institutional blind spots.

This ordinance revision aims to address these gaps and reduce the burden of brokerage fees incurred during the process of moving, thereby supporting stable independence. Notably, this is the first initiative in Korea to provide long-term support for self-reliant young adults up to the age of 39, rather than simply offering short-term assistance. It is expected to provide substantial help in ensuring housing stability for these young adults.

Son Imseong, Director of Urban Housing at Gyeonggi Provincial Government, stated, "We have improved the system to ensure that self-reliant young adults do not face new crises due to housing instability as they settle into society," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create a stable housing environment and a foundation for independence for young people."
