Buyeo County Launches Task Force Team to Promote "Monthly 150,000 Won Basic Income"

All Departments Mobilized, Including Budget, Population, and Agriculture
Building on "Farmer Subsidy" Success to Compete in Pilot Project Selection

Buyeo County Launches Task Force Team to Promote "Monthly 150,000 Won Basic Income"

Buyeo County in South Chungcheong Province has launched a task force team to be selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ Rural Basic Income Pilot Project.

The rural basic income system provides all rural residents with an unconditional monthly payment of 150,000 won to reduce inequality and revitalize the community. The county has drawn attention as a local government that achieved results with the “basic income-type farmer subsidy” in 2019.

On September 21, the county announced the official launch of the task force team to promote the rural basic income pilot project.

The task force team is organized into three groups across five departments: budget, population, agriculture, economy, and public relations. Deputy Governor Hong Euna will serve as the general director, leading a close collaborative system among departments.

The task force team will focus on establishing a funding strategy, analyzing the effects of using local currency, and developing ways to encourage resident participation, thereby laying the practical groundwork necessary for selection in the pilot project.

In particular, the team plans to extensively gather residents’ opinions to maximize the regional impact and ripple effects of the “monthly 150,000 won basic income.”

Deputy Governor Hong stated, “The rural basic income pilot project will bring changes such as resolving economic inequality, improving quality of life, and revitalizing the community in our county. Active interest and participation from residents are essential for the project’s selection.”

Meanwhile, in 2019, the county was the first in the central region to introduce the “basic income-type farmer subsidy,” issuing the local currency “Goodtrae Pay” to invigorate the rural economy.

This system has since spread to all cities and counties in South Chungcheong Province, becoming a representative model of regional basic income.

Going forward, the county plans to expand its policy areas to include basic welfare, basic education, and basic healthcare through selection in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ competition, further solidifying its status as a “leading local government in rural basic income.”
