Na Kyungwon: "Trying to Acquit Lee Jaemyung on North Korea Remittance? Democratic Party Must Stop Undermining the Judiciary"

On September 21, Na Kyungwon, a member of the People Power Party, strongly criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, urging them to "stop the political manipulation aimed at overturning the trial regarding President Lee Jaemyung's illegal remittance of 8 million dollars to North Korea," and called for the immediate resumption of the trial.

Na Kyungwon: "Trying to Acquit Lee Jaemyung on North Korea Remittance? Democratic Party Must Stop Undermining the Judiciary" On the 21st, Na Kyungwon, a member of the People Power Party, strongly criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, urging them to "stop the political manipulation aimed at overturning the trial regarding President Lee Jae Myung's illegal remittance of 8 million dollars to North Korea," and called for the immediate resumption of the trial.

Through a post on her Facebook page that day, Assemblywoman Na stated, "The reason the Democratic Party is blatantly distorting facts and attempting to overturn the trial results recently is none other than their plot to ensure Lee Jaemyung's acquittal," adding, "Trying to mislead the public with absurd case fabrication and rumors about a salmon sashimi drinking party, regarding a case where the accomplice has already been convicted by the Supreme Court, is nothing but an attempt to deny the court's ruling."

She continued, "According to what Prosecutor Park Sangyong, who was directly in charge of the illegal remittance to North Korea case, revealed on a broadcast, the 'salmon sashimi drinking party' narrative involving Lee Hwayeong is blatantly fictitious," and pointed out, "The claim that salmon sashimi and soju were served during the investigation, with a defense attorney present, is inconsistent, and even the 'drinking party persuasion' claim is not credible, with the dates being inconsistent and lacking coherence."

Assemblywoman Na also emphasized, "The key evidence, a National Intelligence Service document, was first mentioned by Lee Hwayeong, and the prosecution obtained it accordingly. It is said that he voluntarily testified about details that the prosecution did not ask about or could not possibly know," adding, "Such testimony would not be possible if it were a false confession, which means there was no motive for inducement."

She stated, "Ultimately, this is a political scheme to blur the essence of the illegal remittance to North Korea case, which has resulted in a confirmed conviction and is directly tied to President Lee Jaemyung, and to overturn the trial outcome," and criticized, "Nevertheless, the Ministry of Justice is shaking the trial by announcing an inspection based on unverified statements."

Regarding the Ministry of Justice's announcement of the inspection, she particularly argued, "The so-called evidence presented by the Ministry of Justice is nothing more than 'hearsay upon hearsay,' and Prosecutor Park has consistently explained that unreliable statements have been forcibly introduced into the trial," adding, "This is being abused as a political tool to influence the trial that seeks to determine President Lee Jaemyung's involvement."

Assemblywoman Na also strongly raised issues with the Democratic Party's operation of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee. She said, "The Democratic Party is abusing the prosecutorial reform hearing in the committee as a 'hearing to overturn Lee Jaemyung's illegal remittance to North Korea trial,'" and pointed out, "The witness mobilized has nine criminal convictions, including fraud, theft, receiving stolen goods, and forgery of private documents, and earlier this year was indicted and detained for threatening his live-in girlfriend with a weapon."

She continued, "Attempting to undermine a case that has already resulted in a confirmed conviction based on the testimony of such an individual is an outrageous act of deceiving the public," and added, "It shows utter contempt for the people."

Furthermore, she strongly criticized, "On one side, there are manipulations and schemes to oust the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court under the pretext of a 'meeting of four people,' and on the other, the judiciary is being shaken by mobilizing a witness with nine fraud convictions and spreading rumors about a salmon sashimi drinking party. The ruling party's outrageous belief that they can even overturn a Supreme Court conviction through elected and legislative dictatorship is becoming more serious by the day. The state of the country is appalling."

In conclusion, she said, "The Democratic Party must stop its outrageous acts of trying to oust the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court through manipulated recordings and attempting to overturn judicial rulings to acquit Lee Jaemyung by relying on convicted fraudsters as witnesses," and added, "We must not allow attempts to sway the trial results or demands for a presidential pardon under the pretense of having taken the fall for the real culprit behind the scenes."

She also urged the Ministry of Justice to "immediately stop actions that influence the trial by announcing unproven facts."
