Baemin Opens Korea's Largest Specialized Motorcycle Training Facility... Realistic Delivery Environment Simulated

Baemin Rider School Completed in Hanam
10,000 Trainees to Graduate Annually

A facility has been established to provide riders with specialized motorcycle training regardless of the weather, 365 days a year.

Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, announced on the 21st that the Baemin Rider School in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, which began construction last year, has been completed after a year and six months. The Baemin Rider School is part of Baemin’s “Baemin-Style Promise for Sustainability,” under which the company pledged a social investment of 200 billion won by 2030. Through the Baemin Rider School, Baemin aims to train 10,000 graduates annually and take the lead in rider safety education.

The newly opened Baemin Rider School is located in Mangwol-dong, Hanam, Gyeonggi Province. The facility is three stories above ground, with a total floor area of 8,000 square meters, roughly the size of a soccer field. The first floor houses offices, classrooms, and parking, while the second and third floors are dedicated to motorcycle training. All floors are indoors, allowing training programs to be conducted regardless of weather conditions.

The curriculum focuses on “safe delivery,” in line with the government’s national agenda to mandate safety education for delivery workers. The training areas on the second and third floors simulate various road surfaces and weather conditions to enhance accident prevention education. Traffic lights and lanes are set up to replicate real road environments, enabling education on preventing traffic signal violations. Sprinklers and drainage systems allow riders to experience and practice safe riding on wet roads, hills, and slippery surfaces indoors. Blackout curtains and lighting are used to conduct visibility training for nighttime riding. All training is conducted on electric motorcycles, providing an eco-friendly and noise-free environment.

In addition to practical riding exercises, experiential training using virtual reality and augmented reality (VR/AR) is also available. Trainees wear VR/AR devices to indirectly experience accident scenarios, recognize risks, and learn the necessity of defensive driving. The first floor also features a large classroom that can accommodate more than 120 people. With these facilities, the school aims to graduate 10,000 trainees annually.

Baemin Rider School Demonstrates Educational Effectiveness, Including Reduced Accident Rates and Improved Safe Driving

Baemin Rider School began in 2018 as a “professional rider training program” outsourced to external institutions. In May 2021, the company secured its own training facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and began operating its own program. In April 2022, the school moved to Hwado-eup, Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, where it operated until recently. Since introducing its own training in May 2021, Baemin Rider School has produced approximately 22,000 graduates as of last month.

Baemin has focused on customized training, noting that over 80% of industrial accidents occur among novice riders within six months of starting delivery work. For experienced riders, the program provides opportunities to share and exchange their delivery experiences. These educational efforts have proven beneficial for rider safety. Notably, the accident rate among trainees in 2024 fell to less than half compared to 2022. The accident rate is an indicator of how many industrial accident claims are approved among riders enrolled in industrial accident insurance. Additionally, a 2023 study conducted with the Korea Road Traffic Authority found that Baemin Rider School’s training improved motorcycle riders’ safe driving abilities-including knowledge and attitude-by 128%.

Baemin Rider School plans to further enhance accessibility by offering benefits to graduates, so that more riders can experience these educational effects. For example, under the platform rider mutual growth support system, riders who complete the training and meet certain conditions-such as a minimum number of workdays, passing motorcycle environmental inspections, and having no record of license suspension or higher-are eligible to receive a monthly support payment.

To ensure that training completion provides tangible benefits to riders, the school has also partnered with a mutual aid association. Graduates of Baemin Rider School are eligible to purchase insurance products offered by the Delivery Service Mutual Aid Association at discounted rates. This initiative encourages riders to comply with traffic laws and practice safe driving, while also providing practical benefits such as reduced insurance premiums.

Leading the Way in Building a Safety Net in Harmony with Riders and the Local Community

Baemin Rider School will also be used to foster coexistence and harmony with the local community. The school plans to provide traffic safety education to local children and teenagers, thereby contributing to traffic safety not only for riders but also for the broader community. Additionally, by offering electric motorcycle experiences, the school aims to promote the adoption of eco-friendly transportation in the local area.

Kim Beomseok, CEO of Woowa Brothers, stated, “Since Baedal Minjok launched its first service in 2010, we have worked tirelessly over the past 15 years to foster service growth and create a safe delivery environment for our core partners, the riders.” He added, “With the opening of Baemin Rider School, we will do our utmost to ensure that more riders can work in a safe delivery environment and to create a culture where everyone can enjoy safe deliveries.”
