"Risk of Flight"
A man who damaged part of the wall at Jongmyo Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was arrested on September 20.
Kim Yongjung, a presiding judge at the Seoul Central District Court, conducted a pretrial detention hearing for Mr. A, a man in his 50s charged with violating the Cultural Heritage Protection Act, and issued an arrest warrant, citing concerns that he might attempt to flee.
Mr. A was apprehended at around 12:50 a.m. on September 15 for allegedly breaking 10 roof tiles on the outer wall of Jongmyo Shrine. The damaged tiles consisted of five convex and five concave tiles. The Jongmyo Shrine Management Office discovered the damage during an early morning patrol and reported it. Police then tracked Mr. A’s movements, apprehended him on September 17, and requested an arrest warrant the following day.
