Mother Sentenced to Prison for Allowing Man to Bathe and Commit Lewd Acts with Her Elementary School Daughter for 280,000 Won

Engaged in Lewd Acts in Hotel with Man Met Through Dating App
Court: "Victim Likely to Suffer Increasing Pain with Age"

A Japanese court has sentenced a mother who forced her elementary school-aged daughter into a sex crime for money, as well as the man who participated in the crime, to prison terms.

On September 19, local media outlets including NHK reported that the Hirosaki branch of the Aomori District Court sentenced the girl's mother, identified as Ms. A (38), to two years and two months in prison, and the man, Kanaya Takara (28), to two years and four months in prison.

The court suspended four months of each sentence for three years and placed both individuals under probation.

Kanaya was indicted on charges of forcible indecency for handing 300,000 yen (approximately 280,000 won) in cash to Ms. A and engaging in lewd acts with her daughter in a hotel bath for about 30 minutes last December. It was revealed that both the mother and daughter accompanied each other to the hotel at the time.

During the investigation, authorities additionally confirmed that in 2021, the two had filmed the victim's body in a hotel and that Kanaya paid Ms. A 120,000 yen (approximately 110,000 won) in return. It was reported that the two met through a dating app.

In court, Ms. A stated, "I wanted to buy clothes and shoes for my child with the money," and it was reported that she also used the money for living expenses and to pay off debts. Kanaya said, "I regret causing deep harm to the victim."

During an earlier sentencing hearing, prosecutors pointed out, "The crime was extremely malicious because it was committed for money by exploiting the victim's inability to refuse her mother's instructions," and requested three-year prison sentences for both individuals.

In his ruling, Judge Kusuyama Takamasa stated, "The victim is expected to experience increasing psychological pain as she grows older," and explained the sentencing by saying, "There are concerns that the mother's involvement in the crime, despite her duty to protect her daughter, may hinder the child's growth and development."
