Three Weeks of Intensive Activities Until October 2
Strengthened Patrols, Preventive Education, and Community Collaboration in a Multi-faceted Approach
Amid growing public concern over abduction and luring crimes targeting minors, the Gumi Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province (Chief Kim Dongwook) has deployed School Police Officers (SPOs) to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of students on their way to and from school.
In line with the "Plan to Strengthen Visible Police Activities for the Prevention of Minor Abduction and Luring," SPOs have been carrying out intensive crime prevention activities for three weeks, from September 16 to October 2.
In particular, the "On-site Crime Prevention Education at Eye Level," which aims to enhance students' ability to respond to crimes, has received positive feedback from both students and teachers.
During the education sessions held on September 16 for approximately 100 fifth and sixth graders at Gwangpyeong Elementary School and all 54 students at Namgye Elementary School, video materials based on real crime cases were used to vividly teach children how to deal with strangers and how to seek help in dangerous situations, tailored to their level of understanding.
Chief Kim Dongwook emphasized that the safety of students is the top priority for society, stating, "We will focus all our efforts on building a robust social safety net by having SPOs and the local community work together, so that students can truly feel safe on their way to and from school, rather than simply engaging in activities for show."
