Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics were recognized for their design innovation by winning numerous awards at the international design competition "IDEA 2025."


Samsung Electronics announced on September 19 that it received a total of 47 awards at IDEA 2025, including 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 3 Bronze, and 39 Finalist honors. This year, the company explained that it achieved large-scale recognition thanks to customer-centric lifestyle designs, such as differentiated designs incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable concept designs with social value, which received high praise.


IDEA, organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) since 1980, evaluates design innovation, user experience, and social contribution. This year, it announced winners in 20 categories, including industrial products, consumer technology, digital interaction, and packaging.


At IDEA 2025, the "Samsung Mobile Design Visual Identity System" and the "Inclusive Home Appliance Design Concept for the Visually Impaired" won the highest honor, the Gold Award.

The Samsung Mobile Design Visual Identity System is characterized by connecting the diverse form factors of Galaxy mobile products into a unified visual identity. Each product’s unique mobile form factor is intuitively expressed according to specific rules, effectively conveying the design message of "Essential," which focuses on the fundamental value of each product.


The Inclusive Home Appliance Design Concept for the Visually Impaired is a design that enhances accessibility, allowing not only people with visual impairments and the elderly but also all users to use home appliances more easily and conveniently. It is distinguished by standardizing the shapes of control buttons and the color system across various products, while providing visual, auditory, and tactile guidance simultaneously through light, sound, and raised embossing. This enables users, including those with low vision, to intuitively understand and operate the products more easily.


The Galaxy Tab S10 series, which won the Silver Award, is a premium tablet optimized for large screens and equipped with AI. Users can easily utilize various AI features with the S Pen, and enjoy an AI experience tailored for tablets, such as managing all connected home devices at once through SmartThings' "3D Map View."


The modular space design concept "Samsung Smart Modular House" and the "Digital Twin" of the building integrated management solution (b.IoT) also received Silver Awards. Three designs won Bronze Awards: the Galaxy S24 FE, Vision AI On-Screen Story, and the EHS Mono System, a residential heat pump heating device.

Samsung Electronics was recognized in various categories, including AI products, concept designs, and exhibitions, with 39 designs being named as finalists. In particular, products incorporating AI technology to provide users with differentiated experiences drew attention. The selected products included the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 6, the Smart Monitor M9, and the Bespoke AI One Body washer and dryer with a vertical combination design.


The company also received finalist honors in concept design and exhibition categories, such as the "BOJAGI" package design concept and the "Future of Coexistence" design philosophy exhibition.


Mauro Porcini, Chief Design Officer (CDO) of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, stated, "Innovation born from technology and human empathy enriches all our lives," adding, "We will continue to overcome the limits of technology, warmly connect people, and work together to create a brighter future for everyone."


LG Electronics won 16 awards at this year’s IDEA. Notably, the wireless and transparent TV "LG Signature OLED T" achieved a grand slam by winning top honors at the Red Dot Design Award, the iF Design Award, and now IDEA. This product is an OLED TV that allows users to switch between black screen and transparent screen modes with a remote control. In addition, various products such as the LG Signature Smart InstaView Refrigerator, LG Artcool, LG StanbyME 2, and the LG AI Symbol were recognized for design excellence at IDEA.


LG Electronics explained that it has received a total of 100 awards this year from the world’s three major design awards: the Red Dot Design Award, IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards), and the iF Design Award (International Forum Design Award).


Previously, the company won 12 awards in the Brand & Communication category at the Red Dot Design Award. The UX (user experience) applied to AI home platform LG ThinQ and the smart TV platform webOS was recognized.


The Red Dot Design Award annually selects and honors outstanding designs in the categories of Product, Concept, and Brand & Communication. In the Brand & Communication category, awards are given to innovative designs with exceptional user convenience and efficiency. Previously, LG Electronics received the top award and the highest innovation award in the Product and Concept categories announced by the Red Dot Design Award. In the Product category, the company won a total of 35 awards for products such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, TVs, air conditioners, air purifiers, audio equipment, monitors, and commercial robots. In the Concept category, My Taste Company, an in-house independent company at LG Electronics, won the top prize for DuoBo.


Earlier this year, LG Electronics also won 36 awards at the iF Design Award 2025, including the top Gold Award, across product design, communication, UX (user experience), UI (user interface), and packaging categories. In the product design category, the AI home hub "LG ThinQ On" and the premium LCD TV "QNED TV," which enhances immersion with its slim design, were among the winners. In the communication, UX, UI, and packaging categories, the "LG ThinQ Character," which communicates with customers in a friendly manner within the app, and "LG Iconography," which ensures consistent usability for products and services, received awards.
