First Lady Melania Trump, who is on a state visit to the United Kingdom with President Donald Trump, has continued to draw attention with her outfits that carry diplomatic messages.
On the 16th (local time), upon arriving in London, Melania Trump stepped off the presidential plane wearing the Kensington trench coat from Burberry, a leading British brand. The classic coat, with a floor-length cut and a check-patterned lining, was on full display. The New York Times interpreted this as "a gesture subtly reminding of cross-border cooperation, as Burberry is the most famous British brand but is run by an American CEO." Analysts noted that this choice carried a nuanced meaning, given that tariff negotiations were underway at the time.
The following day, on the 17th at Windsor Castle, she wore a wide-brimmed purple hat and a deep-toned two-piece suit from the French brand Dior. Renowned stylist Marian Kwei commented, "The hat, which partially covers her face, is meant to direct all attention to her husband and his policies." She also pointed out that the color of the hat matched President Trump’s necktie, interpreting it as "an expression of policy support."

At the state banquet held later that day, she changed the mood with a yellow Carolina Herrera dress. The long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder dress was paired with a light purple belt, green diamond earrings, and Manolo Blahnik shoes. The Telegraph reported, "It was so bright that other guests might have needed sunglasses," adding, "She drew all eyes to herself." The New York Times evaluated the outfit as "reflecting President Trump’s message of an 'American golden age.'"
Expert opinions were divided. Kwei pointed out, "It is a rare color for a state banquet, and the exposed shoulders are somewhat bold." On the other hand, Vanessa Friedman, fashion director of The New York Times, said, "Compared to the dresses worn by Princess Kate Middleton or Queen Camilla, it was rather restrained," describing it as "an outfit that balanced what was revealed and what was concealed."
Debate continued on social media. Some commented, "Unusual but stunning," and "Beautiful," while others criticized, saying, "It looks like beachwear."
