Enhancing Global MICE Competitiveness
The Gangwon Tourism Foundation (CEO Choi Sunghyun) announced on the 18th that it held the 'Gangwon MICE Alliance Strategy Meeting' at the Cassia Hotel in Sokcho on the 17th, where in-depth discussions took place on public-private cooperation measures to revitalize the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. The meeting was especially meaningful as it was held in Sokcho, which was selected as the destination of the month for the 2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years.

The strategy meeting was attended by 50 participants from over 30 alliance member companies, including major hotels, resorts, unique venues, and travel agencies in the province. Key agenda items included the appointment and presentation of plaques to 10 new member companies for 2025, a report on major business achievements by the Gangwon Tourism Foundation’s MICE Cruise Team, and the discovery of joint promotional marketing and cooperation strategies for the Visit Gangwon Years.
In particular, taking the '2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years' as an opportunity, concrete cooperation measures were proposed, such as operating joint domestic and international promotional booths, expanding collaboration on familiarization tours, and pursuing joint marketing for the Korea MICE Expo (KME) 2025. Through these initiatives, the foundation sought to move beyond simple promotion and explore ways to create tangible ripple effects by linking regional tourism with the MICE industry.
Choi Sunghyun, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, stated in his opening remarks, "The Gangwon MICE Alliance is a collaborative platform jointly created by the local public and private sectors," and added, "Public-private cooperation centered on the Gangwon MICE Alliance will serve as a driving force for Gangwon’s sustainable growth and entry into the global market."

The foundation plans to actively incorporate the opinions and suggestions proposed at this strategy meeting into next year’s business plan. In addition, by strengthening close cooperation with member companies, it aims to enhance its capacity to attract MICE events and drive growth across the entire tourism industry of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, thereby revitalizing the local economy.
