The Gyeongnam Changwon Maritime Police Station is taking measures to prevent maritime accidents ahead of the Chuseok holiday, aiming to ensure the safety of people visiting the sea during the holiday period.
The Changwon Maritime Police announced that it will implement special maritime safety management measures for the Chuseok holiday from September 18 to October 9.
During this period, inspections and patrols will be strengthened at ports, fishing harbors, breakwaters, and rocky coastal areas, with a particular focus on the safety management of multipurpose vessels such as cruise ships.
There will also be intensive crackdowns on crimes that threaten public livelihoods, including theft of catches or vessels at night, advance payment and insurance fraud, illegal fishing, as well as on food safety violations such as the illegal distribution of food products.
The response readiness of rescue teams and police substations will be reviewed, and efforts to prevent marine pollution accidents will be intensified.
In particular, considering that there have been three maritime accidents involving motorboats during the Chuseok holiday over the past three years, mainly due to increased leisure activities and carelessness, patrol vessels will be strategically deployed along major routes and in areas with concentrated fishing activity.
Additionally, high-risk coastal areas such as rocky shores and breakwaters will be subject to focused patrols.
An official from the Changwon Maritime Police stated, "As more people are expected to visit the sea during the long holiday, we will maintain a 24-hour emergency response posture to prevent maritime accidents and ensure that everyone can enjoy a safe holiday."
The official also urged, "We ask the public to follow safety rules, such as wearing life jackets, so that everyone can have a peaceful Chuseok together."
