On September 18, Dongducheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyungdeok) announced the final selection of recipients for the 37th Dongducheon Citizen Award, which is presented to citizens who have demonstrated exceptional affection for their hometown and have contributed to the development and unity of the local community.

Established in 1989, the Dongducheon Citizen Award is given to individuals who have enhanced the city’s reputation and contributed to the advancement of the community. As of last year, 169 citizens had been honored. This year, 13 candidates competed across four categories, with four individuals ultimately selected as recipients.

This year’s awardees are as follows: ▲ Yoon Moonhee in the Social Service Division ▲ Cha Imsoon in the Filial Piety and Good Deeds category ▲ Kim Jaeman in the Culture and Arts Department ▲ Park Yongseon from the Sports Promotion Division.

Yoon Moonhee, recipient of the Social Service Division award, began volunteering with the Dongducheon Lions Club in 1999 and has since participated in various volunteer activities, including delivering Red Cross Hope Windmill relief supplies, identifying isolated elderly individuals in welfare blind spots, engaging in one-on-one Life Love Package initiatives, environmental clean-ups, and night patrols. Yoon was highly recognized for exceptional affection for the community and dedication to volunteerism, which have contributed to the improvement of local welfare and the strengthening of community spirit.

Cha Imsoon, who received the Filial Piety and Good Deeds award, has set an example of filial devotion by caring for her parents-in-law for many years and treating elderly neighbors as family members. Despite difficult circumstances, she raised her children admirably, serving as a role model for others.

Kim Jaeman, recipient of the Culture and Arts Department award, served as president of the Dongducheon branch of the Sungkyunkwan Confucian Association. He has made significant contributions to preserving local traditional culture and expanding citizens’ cultural rights by organizing ceremonies at Samchungdan and memorial services for Heungdeok Moon, as well as writing educational materials on traditional culture and etiquette for youth.

Park Yongseon, who received the Sports Promotion Division award, was the first president of the Dongducheon Sports Council. He played a key role in expanding both elite and recreational sports, improving citizens’ health and welfare, and contributing to the creation of a vibrant local community.

The recipients, who have been confirmed as this year’s Citizen Award honorees, will receive their certificates and medals at the Citizen’s Day ceremony scheduled for October 1 at the Citizen’s Hall.
