This selection is part of a policy to expand urban forests in response to the climate crisis, aiming to mitigate the urban heat island effect and heat waves, absorb carbon, and reduce fine dust.

The Deokpo District Climate Response Urban Forest will focus on alleviating the urban heat island effect, among the various functions of urban forests such as improving the living environment for residents, forming landscapes, and providing spaces for relaxation. It will be created over approximately two years starting in 2026.

The development site is located at 868-2 Deokpoli, Yeongwol-eup, and is expected to further accelerate the improvement of residential environments and living conditions in the Deokpoli area by being linked with various adjacent projects, including the Deokpo District Urban Development Project (apartment complexes), Donggang Yeongwol The Well Town (regional vitality town), relocation of public institutions (Yeongwol Police Station and Gangwon Southern Regional General Hospital), and a drone test bed.

Choi Myungseo, Mayor of Yeongwol County, stated, "The creation of the urban forest, in connection with the development projects in the Deokpoli area, will contribute to the formation of a new town, and we will ensure that residents can enjoy a pleasant living environment."
