IQ Lab Completes Korea's First 8-Inch SiC Power Semiconductor Plant at Gijang Southeast Industrial Complex

Accelerating the Pace of Self-Reliance in Power Semiconductor Technology

Gijang County in Busan (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced that on September 17, the completion ceremony for the factory of IQ Lab, a specialized power semiconductor company led by CEO Kim Kwonje, was held at the Southeast Radiation Medical Science General Industrial Complex (Southeast Industrial Complex).

The event was attended by Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County; Park Hyungjun, Mayor of Busan; Park Hongbok, Chairman of the Gijang County Council; Yang Jaesaeng, Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Kim Bokgyu, Senior Vice President of Korea Development Bank; Kim Kwonje, CEO of IQ Lab; and over 300 officials from local governments, academia, and industry, who gathered to celebrate the new beginning of IQ Lab.

IQ Lab is recognized as a leading anchor company in the materials, parts, and equipment sector, pioneering power semiconductor technology by developing 8-inch SiC (silicon carbide) power semiconductor devices using etching technology.

With the establishment of the nation’s first 8-inch SiC power semiconductor production plant at the Southeast Industrial Complex, the company is expected to accelerate the pace of achieving self-reliance in domestic power semiconductor technology.

Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "With the completion of IQ Lab’s factory, the Southeast Industrial Complex has made significant progress toward becoming a specialized cluster for power semiconductors. We will do our utmost to support resident companies so they can grow into core enterprises."

The Southeast Industrial Complex was designated as a specialized cluster for power semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in July 2023. IQ Lab was selected as a 'leading power semiconductor company' by Busan Metropolitan City in April last year.
